AXIOM ADDICTS
Transforming blues, hard rock, and honky-tonk
into something new: Music you can hear.
Featuring: Rina Kleege (vocals, guitar), Stephen Kleege (keyboard, vocls), John Herman (bass), and George Roberts (drums).
Rina and Stephen Kleege met near the end of the last millennium as members of the 14-piece funk review Deep Feelings & What the Funk Is Going On, Part 2. They then formed Re-band, a five-piece rock group that disbanded when its bassist moved back to Japan. Finding opportunity in adversity, Rina and Steve put together a repertoire of songs that defy categorization, incorporating funk band, roots-rock group, and jazz tinged honky tonk.
Steve and Rina performed as duo, focusing on lyrics and melody to tell well-crafted musical tales of domestic drama, political hypocrisy, and love gained and lost on the Internet and elsewhere. They got a jolt of energy in 2007, adding bassist John Herman and drummer George Roberts.
Rina’s previous bands include the Shuffle, Dr. Joy and the Operators, Freddie and the Drumsticks, Witchtree, and Ice 9. Steve has played with Insignificant Others, Big Jive (with Ellen Foley), and the house band at the Millhouse, Waitsfield, Vt., backing such artists as Jon Hendricks and Bobby McFerrin. George Roberts played with the legendary soul artist Clarence Carter (“Slipway” “Patches” and “Strokin”) and the Atlanta based Para Band, opening for Talking Heads, Def Leopard, Root Boy Slim, and Rossington-Collins Band (surviving members of Lynyrd Skynyrd). >
